Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives (PSAs) are adhesives which form a bond when pressure is applied to marry the adhesive with the adherend (or substrate). No solvent, water, or heat is needed to activate the adhesive. They are used in pressure sensitive tapes, labels, note pads, automobile trim and a wide variety of other products.

As the name “pressure sensitive” indicates, the degree of bond is influenced by the amount of pressure which is used to apply the adhesive to the surface. Surface factors such as smoothness, surface energy, removal of contaminants, etc. are also important to proper bonding.

Lamination

A laminate is a material that is constructed by uniting two or more layers of material together. The process of creating a laminate is lamination, which generally refers to placing something between layers of plastic and bonding them with heat and/or pressure, usually with an adhesive. The materials used in laminates can be the same or different. An example of lamination using different materials would be the application of a layer of plastic film — the “laminate” — on either side of a sheet of glass — the laminated subject. Vehicle windshields are commonly made by laminating a tough plastic film between two layers of glass.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene

Polypropylene (PP), is a thermoplastic polymer, made by the chemical industry and used in a wide variety of applications, including packaging, textiles, stationery, plastic parts and reusable containers of various types, laboratory equipment, loudspeakers, automotive components and polymer banknotes. An addition polymer made from the monomer propylene, it is rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids.
