Product Questions
- What is the difference between polypropylene (BOPP) and polyester (PET)?
BOPP is biaxially oriented polypropylene and PET is polyester. Self-wound BOPP is generally used to provide label protection for the ink and substrate and enhance the look with a gloss or matte appearance. Self-wound PET is generally used for a more challenging label application which calls for more durability, abrasion resistance, higher heat resistance, UV stability or where a stronger overlaminate is needed. The PET also enhances the look with a gloss or matte appearance.
- Is your self-wound overlaminate writable?
You can write on our products 531 matte polypropylene and 631 matte polyester. Please test for your application.

- Can you flexo print on your self-wound overlaminate?
You cannot flexo print on acpo ltd. self-wound overlaminate. Our BOPP is uncoated and our PET contains a medium release coating, but both products do not have the proper dyne level (surface tension) which allows flexographic inks to adhere to the material. However, we do offer a line of PS laminate material you are able to flexographic print.
- Can you laser print on your self-wound overlaminate?
We do not market or warranty our material for laser printing. However, we have some customers who successfully laser print on our item 600T and L61010. We recommend you test a sample in your process and evaluate the laser printing results.
- What is your minimum/maximum slit size and roll length?
We are able to slit rolls to narrow width 3/8” and slit up to 30” wide.
We specialize in roll lengths 5,000’ to 20,000’.
We are able to slit short roll lengths less than 5,000’ for an up charge.
Paint mask is a two layer polyester laminate. The bottom layer is permanent overlaminate to laminate your label, while the top layer is an overlaminate, which has a deadened edge on each side of the roll. The product is used in painting and powder coating applications. The label (barcode, serial number, etc.) which would be applied to a product is ran through a paint bath and dried. After the product is dried, the top layer of the paint mask is easily removed, exposing the label and maintaining the integrity of the information.
Technical Questions
- What causes fisheyes and do they wet out?
Fisheyes, also referred to as watermarks, are caused by air entrapment between the substrate and the overlaminate. These marks are common when you are dealing with emulsion acrylic adhesive. The marks will wet out in 24 to 48 hours. If for some reason they do not wet out within that time period, please ensure your inks are dry before the overlaminate is applied, the moisture in the inks will become entrapped, not allowing the adhesive to flow out properly leaving permanent fisheyes.
